Rikard Karlberg förbereder sig inför US-open kvalet på Walton Heath på måndag och kommer åka direkt därifrån till Nordea Masters på PGA National i Skåne.

– Livet leker just nu. Jag är kär, jag bor bra och jag känner mig mer chill och avslappnad. Det avspeglar sig även i golfen.

Det märks i alla fall inte på humöret att Rikard har dragits med en seglivad influensa under våren.

– Tyvärr kan jag inte träna så mycket på grund av den här influensan som sitter i sedan i vintras. Men formen är skitbra och det är verkligen skoj med golf just nu. Det ska bli väldigt kul att spela Nordea Masters.

Nordea Masters är speciell tävling för Rikard. Den var till och med startskottet för hans karriär som golfproffs.

– Det var en granne som tog med mig till Forsgården för att kolla på det som då hette Scandinavian Masters 1996. John Daly och Jesper Parnevik var där och jag blev helt tagen. Jag åkte på juniorläger senare samma år och sedan dess har golfen varit min stora passion.

– Det känns häftigt att spela i Sverige. Familj och vänner kommer till tävlingen och det blir en lättsam atmosfär runt hela tävlingen. Man snackar gärna lite med folk man känner i publiken. Jag har blivit bättre på att slappna av den senaste tiden och det hjälper mig att fokusera på att vinna. Tidigare kunde jag bli förbannad men nu bara rinner det av mig. Jag är taggad och en vinst i Nordea Masters rankar jag strax under US Masters.

Tävlingarna lägger olika mycket kraft på att göra det mysigt för spelarna. Nordea Masters har tagit in e-handelsbutiken Sweef som preferred partner och möbelleverantör till players lounge. Rikard tycker att det är viktigt med en skön atmosfär som bjuder in till gott häng under tävlingarna.

– Efter rundan eller vid regnavbrott sitter vi spelare ofta och snackar över en kopp kaffe. Många spelare är sköna och kul typer att hänga med. Vissa tävlingar ställer bara ut plaststolar och några rangliga bord, men i år har jag hört att de inreder ett jättestort vardagsrum åt oss med goa fåtöljer och soffor.
